Suzuki Corp told my dealer that my stalling problem is an isolated case and "is just not a known problem" on Savages. I beg to differ. Suzuki should monitor this Savage Forum as there are quite a few posts with stalling problems just like mine. Here's a link to one discussion on this site from May of 2000:

I've had various makes & models of bikes for almost 30 years now and this is my first experience with a vacuum petcock. I don't like it. I prefer the simplicity of gravity, which was never a problem for me before. I had a Yamaha 350 back in the 79's that you absolutely had to shut the petcock off or else the carb would flood and you'd crank like crazy trying to start it. I'm still in the habit of turning the petcock off when I'm done riding, so I plan to ride my Savage on prime and turn it off when I'm finished with the ride. First chance I get I'm also going to take the petcock apart and remove the vacuum diaphram (described in the link above) and plug the vacuum line. That'll give me the reserve setting back. It's worked for others, so I'm game. I'll be darned if I'm going to pop $85 for a new petcock every year or so.
Thanks for all your advice.
